Your TV bed FAQs

Are TV beds a good idea?

If you like having a TV in your bedroom but don’t like the look of a TV in your bedroom, a TV bed is for you. At first glance, all you’ll see is a very stylish, very luxurious upholstered bed frame. That’s because the TV is hidden in the foot of the bed, and is raised and lowered by remote control – or even voice command – so that for the vast majority of the time your TV stays hidden and your bedroom stays elegant, sophisticated and technology-free. But when it’s time to watch a movie or download that new boxset you’ve been eyeing, you can activate the television in your new TV bed in seconds and watch from arguably the comfiest seat in the house – your mattress. If your bedroom is a little short on storage space, be sure to consider a TV bed that comes complete with an ottoman storage compartment under the mattress.

Do TV beds usually include mattresses?

TV beds don’t usually come with a mattress, and that’s because it’s important to sleep on a mattress that’s exactly right for you – the right firmness, the right size and the right feel. You can either use an existing mattress with your TV bed or, if your mattress is nearing the end of its life, you can take the purchase of a TV bed as the perfect opportunity to choose a brand new mattress. Either way, you’ll find that TV beds are compatible with most standard mattresses so be sure to browse our huge selection of memory foam, hybrid and pocket spring mattresses from top brands including Hypnos, Vispring and Silentnight. Need a couple of extra pillows behind your back as you lean against your new bed frame’s cushioned headboard? We offer a range of exceptional pillows in our bedding and pillows department.

Can you put any TV in a TV bed?

TV beds typically don’t include the TV. This means you have free rein to choose the brand, the level of technology and the price of the TV you want. TV beds are designed to accommodate flat screen TVs, and there will always be a maximum size of TV – which varies according to the size of the bed frame – that you can install. Be sure to carefully read the information that accompanies your TV bed frame so you don’t purchase a TV that’s too big or too small for your new TV bed.

Do TV beds have storage?

You’ll often find that TV bed frames have built-in storage. This is usually in the form of ottoman-style storage – where the side of the bed frame lifts up to reveal a roomy storage space for blankets, pillows and other lightweight but bulky items. Many TV beds also have an alcove for magazines, remote controls and anything else that might clutter up your bedside table.

What styles do TV beds come in?

Most TV beds look very impressive. Fully upholstered from top to bottom and with cushioned headboards, they typically feature a higher foot board – which is where the TV is housed – and this contributes to an overall grand and sophisticated look. You’ll likely be able to choose the style and finish of the bed frame’s headboard to match the style of your bedroom. If the rest of your bedroom is contemporary with modern bedroom furniture, look out for a TV bed frame with neutral-coloured upholstery and simple stitching or fluting. Prefer a more classic look? Pair your oak bedroom furniture with a buttoned or pleated TV bed frame headboard.

Will a TV bed last as long as a standard bed frame?

As with everything we sell, Furniture Village’s TV beds are built for longevity as well as style and value. We seek out bed frames that use only the highest-quality materials, like sustainable timber, and the latest technology for the TV and ottoman mechanisms. As long as you look after your new bed frame carefully, it should be with you for years to come. That means making sure the upholstery stays clean and dust-free as well as spot-cleaning or professionally cleaning as required. You’ll find plenty of bed frame maintenance tips in our upholstered bed care guide.

What’s the best room for a TV bed?

TV beds typically range in size from double to super king, so you’ll want to choose a room that can easily accommodate a bed of that size. TV bed frames are a great choice for a primary bedroom – especially if you like your bedroom to be an escape from the chaos of the everyday, and a place where you can relax in peace and quiet. A TV bed is also a very welcome touch in a guest room. Providing your guests with a room they can (temporarily) call their own instead of just a place to sleep will definitely cement your status as the host or hostess with the most. If your guest bedroom also doubles as a home office or chill-out space for teens and tweens, having a TV bed in situ makes that room even more multi-functional.

What’s the best way to style a TV bed frame?

As TV beds have an elevated foot end to house the television, they tend to feel larger than the average bed frame of a similar size. Given that, it’s often a good idea to keep the rest of the furniture in the room simple and minimal to avoid an overly cluttered feeling and to keep the room feeling relaxed and spacious. Focus on eye-catching decorative touches like a statement ceiling light, a large modern rug and colourful scatter cushions.
