When furnishing any room, consider the largest piece first: the sofa in the living
room, the dining table in the dining area, the bed in the bedroom. Your furniture
should be arranged in a way pleasing to the eye, comfortable to use and convenient
to move around.
Before placing an order, please take a close look at all the access areas in your
home, from the first entry doorway through to your selected room.
You need to know exactly where you want the furniture to be, and whether it will
fit. Start by taking the following measurements:
- Measure the surface area of the space where you want to put the furniture. Make
a rough sketch with a note of the dimensions.
- Measure the width, height, and depth of the model you want to order.
What at first seems impossible to fit may not be. Furniture Village offer split
sofa options on some of our larger sofas and some of our larger cabinets and beds
come apart so they are easier to move.
- All widths and diagonal depths should be less than the entryway dimensions. Check
the diagonal depth on upholstery by placing a straight tape measure from the back
of the frame to the front of the arm. If you are unsure, please visit or call any
of our Furniture Village stores. Our consultants will be happy to help.
- If it was easy to get your existing furniture in, compare the measurements with
the model you want to replace it with.
- When ordering a wall display unit, measure the wall you wish to place it against
from floor to ceiling. The diagonal height should be less than the entryway.
- Measure the width and height of all doorways, hallways, and stairways, including
banisters and turns, and don’t forget about obstacles such as radiators, wall and
ceiling lights.
If you are at all uncertain about your measurements, please ask our staff for help.
For a nominal charge, we can sometimes make a special arrangement for a ‘dummy run’
where our delivery crew will call round to your house and assess the access for
you. They may even bring the showroom display item you want to buy with them to
see if it will fit.
If access through a door is too tight, it may be possible to get the furniture in
via another route. Often customers have fence panels removed or a window taken out.
Our Store Distribution Managers can suggest local tradesmen who will provide you
with a quotation before you commit to any additional cost.
Finally, if the worst happens and it really won’t fit in, do come and talk to us.
With our huge range of products and the expert knowledge of our staff, we will do
our utmost to come up with a great alternative for you.
