The Sealy Story

Sleep matters to Sealy

It all began back in 1881 when Daniel Haynes, who hailed from the small town of Sealy, Texas, made a cotton-filled mattress for a neighbour. It proved to be a great success and, before long, more friends and neighbours approached him to make them similar mattresses.

Ever resourceful and to cope with growing demand, Haynes invested in a machine to compress cotton for his mattresses. The fame of his comfortable, cotton-filled mattresses spread and soon everyone was talking about the “mattress from Sealy”. Today, Sealy makes beautiful beds all over the world - including the UK.

FAQs

What is Sealy Waltham?

The Sealy Waltham range of mattresses features Sealy’s PostureTech CoreSupport spring system. This intelligent spring system is comprised of springs that work together to respond to the shape of your body and therefore offer the correct level of support for you (and only you).

What are the different levels of Sealy mattresses?

Broadly speaking, Sealy offers three different types – or levels – of mattress. These are Sealy Ashton, Sealy Waltham and Sealy Mellbreak. To help you narrow the field as you find your perfect Sealy mattress, here’s little more information about each one. The Sealy Ashton collection combines spring support with a Geltex comfort layer for pressure relief. These supremely comfortable mattresses range from medium soft to firm feel. The Sealy Waltham collection features Sealy’s famous PostureTech CoreSupport spring system, a system that’s designed to respond intelligently to the unique size and shape of your body to provide optimum support – and a great night’s sleep. The Sealy Mellbreak collection is a suite of firm-feel mattresses with tensions ranging from medium firm to extra firm so there’s bound to be a mattress that gives you the back-soothing support you're looking for. And you’ll also enjoy the feel of the PostureTech CoreSupport spring system that incorporates Sealy’s super-resilient twice-tempered springs.

Is Sealy a luxury brand?

If a luxury mattress brand is one that makes every night more comfortable and more restful, then there’s no doubt that Sealy is a luxury brand! Thanks to Sealy's unique combination of sleep innovation – including its proprietary spring system – and extensive testing, you can rely on Sealy divan beds and mattresses to make sleep feel more luxurious. Even better, Sealy beds and mattresses are known for their excellent value for money. In our book, that definitely means that you can enjoy luxurious sleep at a more affordable price.

Is a Sealy Posturepedic mattress good for back pain?

In a word – yes. In fact, Sealy Posturepedic mattresses are specially designed and made to provide you with top to toe support that’s actually personalised to the shape of your body. Behind every Sealy Posturepedic mattress is the knowledge that your mattress should help your spine to maintain a neutral position as a way to reduce muscular tension – whatever position you sleep in. That’s why the technology behind Sealy Posturepedic mattresses helps to keep your spine aligned and reduce back and joint pain. Every Sealy Posturepedic mattress features the brand’s patented technologies including super-resilient twice-tempered springs, edges with superior structure to prevent roll-off and to increase sleeping width, and a selection of comfort fillings uniquely layered for perfect sleep.

How long does a Sealy bed last?

Like all beds and mattresses, Sealy beds are designed and constructed to give you a restful night’s sleep for years to come. But – and, again, this is like all beds and mattresses – they require a certain amount of care and attention. It’s important to take care of your new mattress from the moment it’s delivered to your home, and that includes keeping it clean as well as not doing things that might affect the integrity of its internal structure. (Jumping or standing on a mattress, for example, is a big no-no.) Similarly, upholstered divan bases and headboards need to be cleaned regularly as dust and dirt can be damaging to fabric. If all of this sounds a little confusing, don’t worry. Our handy bed and mattress care guide has plenty of useful information and bite-sized tips. Take a look at the sections on mattress care and divan base care for a quick overview.
