We will be offering complimentary ‘Ipswich Almond Pudding’ tartlets to customers who visit the new Futura Park branch over the weekend of Saturday August 24th and Sunday August 25th.
The ‘Ipswich Almond Pudding’, is a traditional recipe from the area and was first recorded in the 18th Century, appearing alongside the ‘Yorkshire Pudding’ in a recipe book named ‘The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy’ by Hannah Glasse. Despite the ‘Yorkshire Pudding’ gaining worldwide recognition, the Ipswich delicacy did not catch-on. Whilst it can still be found on some menus in the region today, the pudding is unknown to many, and we wanted to revive the recipe and let our customers have a try!
The Ipswich Almond Pudding
The Ipswich Almond Pudding is a centuries-old East Anglian recipe, with the principal ingredients of almonds, fresh white breadcrumbs and cream, and is usually accompanied by a compote made using soft fruit which grows in abundance within the area. The book in which the pudding was first recorded – Hannah Glasse’s ‘The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy’, published in 1747 – became one of the most important references for culinary practice in England and the American colonies during the latter half of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries.
