The Harrison Spinks story

Family bedmakers since 1840

Harrison Spinks is a fifth generation family business that today employs over 600 people, from the farmers who rear the sheep to the craftsmen and craftswomen who use time-honoured skills to make each mattress.
As Ronnie Spinks said back in 1958, “We only ever make beds that we’re happy to sleep on ourselves.”
Harrison Spinks is proud to have been awarded three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. Each award – for Innovation, International Trade and Sustainable Development – symbolises the commitment and dedication Harrison Spinks shows to making mattresses and beds.

It starts on a farm.

Purchased in 2009 and just 18 miles from the Harrison Spinks factory, this 300 acre Yorkshire farm is where it all starts. With sheep reared for their wool, and hemp and flax crops grown without the use of pesticides, it’s all done the way it should be.
Harrison Spinks believes that natural fillings are ideal for mattresses as they help to regulate temperature while you sleep and process moisture within the mattress. What’s more, you can rest easy knowing that every acre of hemp grown absorbs 1 tonne of CO2 each year.

Homemade springs and fabric.

Harrison Spinks makes the springs for every mattresses – and the machines that make the springs. An in-house team of engineers designs and builds machines that can produce up to 600 springs every minute.
The company also weaves the fabric that covers the mattresses. Combining traditional methods with state-of-the-art weaving looms, this fabric is naturally breathable and has no added chemicals.

Handcrafted luxury.

Because there’s no such thing as one mattress fits all, each and every Harrison Spinks bed is handmade to order and tailored to each individual customer. A team of craftsmen and women skilfully hand sew, hand side-stitch and hand tuft each bed.

How are Harrison Spinks mattresses produced?

Every single Harrison Spinks mattress is layered with 100% all-natural fillings, like traceable British wool, hemp and flax fibre. These fillings are either produced on Harrison Spinks’ own farm or sourced locally, which greatly reduces the CO2 and environmental impact of each mattress. Harrison Spinks was the first manufacturer in the world to develop micro pocket spring technology, fitting more springs in each layer and giving you the comfort and support you need for a deep and restorative night’s sleep. It also developed these springs without the use of glue, which allows them to be disassembled and recycled far easier than they would be otherwise.

What is Harrison Spinks’ True Edge technology?

Conventional sprung bases often have a sprung edge that collapses which gives you the feeling you’re about to roll right out of bed if you are sleeping near the edge of the mattress. This is because there is a lot of ‘give’ in the edge of the divan.

True Edge technology eliminates this by providing a reinforced edging around the parameter of the base. It encases the pocket springs, meaning you can sleep right to the edge of your mattress without fear of rolling out. Not only does this maximise your sleeping surface, but it also improves the longevity of your mattress and makes it far easier to get in and out of bed.
