5 Ways to get the Scandi Look

What could be better for relaxed living than the clean and uncluttered simplicity of Scandinavian style? Pure and functional but with natural elements adding warmth, it’s no wonder it never seems to go out of fashion.
Design Inspiration

There are several key influences behind Scandi style. The modern movement with its “form follows function” ideology became very popular in Scandinavia in the early 20th century. The Arts and Crafts movement and Art Nouveau also influenced its evolution.

The beauty of this style is in its adaptability. You can either embrace it completely, or introduce elements that appeal to you.

Here are 5 ways to bring cool Scandi sophistication into your home.

1) Choose a clean, cool colour palette

Bright whites, soft greys and pale blues for ceilings, walls and floors will bring more light into a Scandinavian influenced interior. Against a neutral backdrop, carefully chosen accessories, such as the beautiful Candy Cane large vase, will make an impact.

2) Refresh and revamp

Perhaps you already have Scandi style décor, but you’d like to make it more current. Try adding some contemporary geometric accents such as the bold black and white Ankh cushion. Or introduce a truly iconic piece of furniture for that ‘wow’ factor. The Ercol Love Seat is a mid century modern classic and is now available in solid or ombre yellow, black and navy as well as its original wood finish.

3) Mix and match

If you have a contemporary scheme, clean lined Scandi pieces can enhance the look. The Ercol Studio Couch in Black, with striking black legs and bright red upholstery will add a splash of colour. Additionally the Content by Conran Elmari Balance tall shelving is fashionably asymmetrical.

4) Spend or save

When you invest in a few good pieces of furniture in a timeless style, you save money in the long term. Pebble-like in shape, the Ercol Originals Nest of Tables is a design classic. Choose the Ercol Bosco King Size bedstead if you feel like splashing out, or achieve a similar look for less with the elegant Bergen King Size wooden bed frame.

5) Go ‘Full Scandi’!

If you want to immerse yourself completely in Scandi gorgeousness, the Ercol Originals tables and chairs with their iconic shapes and hand turned splayed legs are perfect for your dining room or kitchen. In the living room, relax on the compact and comfortable Copenhagen 2 seater sofa with its simple lines and elegant, tapered legs. Team it with the Copenhagen accent chair, available in a cool geometric pattern. Build your look with accessories and occasional furniture, but don’t over fill the room.

Choose stylish lighting such as the Black Standby floor lamp. A comfortable rug such as the Serenity wool rug adds comfort underfoot; we love its mesmerising diamond pattern.
