Footstools are amazing

Fact - There’s just so much function to them, and they’re so effortlessly stylish it’s impossible not to love them. Plus, they fit into any budget, and come in so many different shapes, sizes and styles that there is one for every home.

Back to functionality. Footstools not only give you somewhere to put your feet up at the end of the day (there really is no better feeling), but can act as extra seating, extra storage space and extra surface space – making them just about the handiest piece of furniture a home could wish for.

They can look gorgeous too and are worth buying for their accessory-status alone. In fact, we’d go as far as to argue that they’re one of those exquisite finishing touches that separate serious interior design from half-hearted attempts at it.

Convinced? Good. Now here are eight of our all-time favourite footstool designs.

Soft leather in rich burgundy

Prop your feet up on this World of Leather Carolina Leather Storage Footstool, which has a smooth and easy-to-style finish, and comes in a range of earthy colour-tones. Stack away anything from magazines and books to phone chargers and paperwork within its hidden storage section beneath a hinged lid. We particularly love the rich burgundy shade, which would work well in plush surroundings to add a contemporary but warm finishing touch to the room.

Understated practicality in pared back cream

The G Plan Malvern Fabric Storage Footstool offers a pared-back take on the footstool and has comfort at its heart, with a foam cushioned, feet-friendly top. Upholstered in high-quality fabric it would work best in textured surrounds, with matching upholstered sofas, soft rugs and plenty of snuggly throws. It also has a handy storage compartment for all those miscellaneous knick-knacks.

Classic Chesterfield Footstool

Classic Chesterfield in… whatever you fancy!

If you’re not fussed about storage footstools and are more about lavish, hand-crafted stylethan sheer utility, the Alexander and James New England Small Addison Fabric Footstoolcould be just the ticket. It has a plush, buttoned Chesterfield-vibe with hand turned wooden feet in a dark weathered oak for a look that screams 18th century chic. And the best bit? This model comes in twelve leathers and nineteen fabrics, so you’re bound to find one you love.

Sumptuous velvet-vibe in burnt orange

For opulent, retro charm look no further than the Remy Fabric Footstool, which is upholstered in a velvet-soft Luxor fabric. With slender, tapered wooden legs it would fit in well with a range of décor styles from modern to vintage to contemporary. It comes in a range of shades with our favourite being a gorgeous burnt orange tone which is earthy and striking all at once. Pair with rich greens, soft teals, pale aubergines and soft creams.

Chaser Leather Footstool

Premium leather in worn-tan

For a timeless and effortlessly ‘cool’ little number, you can’t beat the Chaser Leather Footstool. Crafted out of super-soft premium leather, and with luxurious buttoning on trendy dark wood legs, this deep-cushioned dream is stylish and insanely comfortable. We love it in the shade ‘Warrior Tan’, which has a classic, relaxed feel and is well and truly ‘in’ right now. Pair with geometric rugs and scatter cushions, deep green house plants and faux-fur throws.
