Wimbledon is the first and oldest tennis tournament. It started as a men’s tournament in 1877, when players were instructed to wear ‘shoes without heels’.

Tennis fans munch their way through a whopping 76,000 sandwiches at Wimbledon, 30,000 pizzas and 17,000 portions of fish and chips.


The fastest tennis serve recorded is an ace of 163.4 mph by Australian Samuel Groth in 2012.


The 250 ball boys and girls are known as BBGs, and they can run 3 or 4 miles during a typical match. After Wimbledon they get to keep their Ralph Lauren uniforms.


Rufus, a highly trained Harris Hawk, flies around the grounds of Wimbledon every morning during the Championships to persuade local pigeons to roost elsewhere.
