Seeing red

Cherry’s deep and vivid tone sets the scene, infusing the look with warmth and drama. “Experiment with colour drenching and don’t be afraid to embrace the full spectrum of red,” explains Bana. “From deep cherry to ruby and bright poppy, layer different shades to fill your space with energy.” Ground the palette by introducing soft neutrals like caramel and butterscotch to your walls or upholstery. This creates a refined base that lets your reds pop without overwhelming the space.

Keep it kitsch

“This trend doesn’t take itself too seriously, so introduce playful touches to bring a sense of fun to your décor,” says Bana. A glazed cherry ornament nods to the look’s inspiration, but anything goes so get creative! Pop-art wall prints and tongue-in-cheek trinkets keep things lighthearted while adding personality and style to your shelves or bedside table.

Be square

For once, being square doesn’t have to mean being boring. Clean lines and geometric motifs shake up an otherwise decadent palette. “Draw the eye with eye-catching patterns and sculptural silhouettes to give your space an elevated edge,” suggests Bana. Grid-style shelving, quirky coffee tables and patterned rugs offset the rich cherry hues while simple, boxy forms add some much-needed visual contrast.

Go with gloss

Lacquered surfaces form the heart of this look. “High-shine finishes add a sense of glamour while helping reflect light around the room,” explains Bana. Weave in glossy details with kitchen tiling or, for something more subtle, try a lacquered tray or side table. These small details pack a visual punch, creating a sleek, modern feel we can’t get enough of.

Make it retro

For furniture, mid-century is the way to go. “Look for retro-inspired pieces that ooze vintage charm,” suggests Bana. “Think velvet chairs, dark wood sideboards and statement lighting. Here, a wooden dining table with a dark varnish anchors the space with timeless sophistication. Try a retro armchair in lipstick red or brushed brass accents to add a touch of mid-century glamour that feels fresh and unfussy.
