At Furniture Village we’re committed to sustainability in all we do – from the furniture we sell to the way we conduct our business.

Here’s a little more information about all the ways we’re taking action to reduce carbon emissions, recycle furniture in a more
environmentally friendly way and offer customers more eco-friendly furniture choices.

Committed to being
carbon neutral

We believe that striving to be carbon neutral is one of the
best ways to take action against climate change.

That's why we've signed up to the British Retail Consortium
Climate Action Roadmap, the retail industry's commitment
to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

This means that we're working with suppliers, other retailers
and the government to find practical solutions to reducing
carbon in the retail industry.

Protecting our forests

We’re committed to working only with furniture suppliers that use sustainable raw materials. That means that the wood our suppliers source for the dining tables, sideboards and other wood furniture we sell must adhere to the standards of sustainability established by the European Union Timber Regulation.

These standards are designed to limit the availability of non-sustainable wood furniture and furniture made from illegally derived timber. It’s important to us that we do our bit to help protect the world’s forests.

This is just the beginning

We know that as a major retailer we have a responsibility to run our business more sustainably.

Right now we're working on further offsetting the carbon generated by our stores and delivery vans, exploring
ways to use renewable energy to power our stores, and reviewing our supply chains to make deliveries more
efficient. And we'll continue to build relationships with brands and suppliers that offer eco-friendly furniture.

We're very much looking forward to the next chapter in our sustainability story.

Sustainability FAQs

What is the BRC climate action roadmap?

The BRC climate action roadmap represents the retail industry’s commitment to deliver net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Established by the British Retail Consortium, the roadmap defines five different pathways to cutting greenhouse gas emissions and has the support of the vast majority of UK retailers large and small – including Furniture Village. As the UK’s largest family-run furniture retailer, we take our role in this climate action project very seriously.

How do I get rid of a lot of furniture?

We’ve partnered with the furniture recycling experts at Clearabee to offer Furniture Village customers an easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of unwanted furniture – whether you want to recycle just one item like a sofa or a mattress or get rid of a lot of furniture all at once. It’s easy to book a collection online, and Clearabee even offers same-day service.

What is the most environmentally friendly mattress?

At Furniture Village, we’re proud to offer a huge range of mattresses many of which are made by eco-friendly mattress makers and bed manufacturers that have a real focus on sustainability. From relying on locally sourced fillings like wool and hemp to making comfort layers from recycled plastic bottles to crafting mattresses that can be fully recycled when they’re past their best, it’s clear that the UK’s bed and mattress makers are increasingly searching for ways to make mattresses more eco-friendly.

However, one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable mattresses around is the one that you already have – as long as you take good care of it so that it lasts for years. Our handy online bed and mattress care guide is full of useful tips to help you keep your mattresses in top condition for longer.

How much does it cost to remove a sofa UK?

That depends on the size of the sofa. When you make a booking with Clearabee, it’s really easy to see how much it costs to remove a sofa – whether that’s a smaller
2-seater sofa or a larger corner sofa. You’ll find clear pricing and simple instructions on the Furniture Village Clearabee page and it’s easy to arrange a sofa pick up. And they don’t just remove and recycle sofas. You can make a booking for multiple pieces of furniture including bed frames, dining tables, mattresses and more.

Once Clearabee has removed your old furniture, the team will make sure that it’s donated to charity, refurbished or recycled. In fact, as much as 95% of the waste they collect is diverted from landfill.
