The TEMPUR® story

At the heart of each TEMPUR® mattress and pillow is the iconic TEMPUR® Material, born from NASA technology.

In the late 1960s, NASA scientists invented a completely new material that was then used onboard the space shuttles. Seeing the material’s unique potential, TEMPUR® took that original NASA invention and spent years perfecting it into TEMPUR® Material to create the world’s first viscoelastic mattress and pillow.

First proving its value in the healthcare sector, TEMPUR® mattresses are now found in bedrooms around the world, transforming the sleep of millions.

At a joint press conference on May 6, 1998, NASA officially recognised TEMPUR® for the brand’s outstanding achievements in adapting the original NASA technology for everyday use and improving the quality of life for humankind.

And TEMPUR® never stops innovating. With the development of TEMPUR® Advanced Material – offering the brand’s best-ever pressure relief* – and the invention of high-tech bed bases that maximise mattress performance, TEMPUR® demonstrates an ongoing and proactive commitment to comfort.

What’s the best pillow to use with a TEMPUR® mattress?

In terms of spinal alignment and correct sleeping posture, the right pillow can be just as important as the right mattress. Do TEMPUR® mattresses sag over time?

It’s true that some memory foam mattresses can sag over time. In fact, this is true of any mattress – it depends on factors that include mattress usage, your body weight and shape, and how carefully you follow the manufacturer's instructions around mattress turning and rotation. Importantly, however, TEMPUR® mattresses are not made with typical mattress foam. TEMPUR® Material is derived from a material first developed by NASA in the 1960s for use aboard space shuttles. TEMPUR® Material has unique properties that ensure its long-lasting integrity as well as incredible ability to relieve pressure as you sleep.
