Our calmest trend of SS26, Nature’s Zen, brings together two perennially popular interior looks: Scandi and Japanese minimalism. We sat down with Bana Tabdiliazar, one of our lovely stylists from our Home Design Service to show you how you can recreate this look at home. Join us as we embrace the quiet beauty of slow mornings, calming rituals and Japandi design.
Nature’s Zen is rooted in the idea that less really is more. Your space should feel considered, not cluttered. “Small, intentional touches rather than big style statements make all the difference here,” Bana tells us. Use a single “Carve out corners that invite you to unwind and relax like a cosy nook with a comfy armchair for reading or sipping your morning tea.” Incorporate textures like faux fur and soft wool to soothe the senses and layer natural materials like linen cushions and hand-woven décor to add interest to your sanctuary.
Use interesting shapes and quirky accents to pay homage to the Japanese concept of ‘wabi-sabi’ - a design ethos that finds beauty in imperfection. “You don’t want this look to feel too polished,” explains Bana. Rustic finishes and artisanal wares are a great way to introduce layered textures to a simple canvas,” explains Bhana. Look for accessories like bobbled cushions, knobbled vases and hand-thrown ceramics to contrast with the clean-lined simplicity of the rest of the space.
This trend is inspired by nature, so it’s no surprise that one of nature’s finest materials - oak - features prominently. Whether it’s an acoustic wall panel or an occasional table, oak furniture introduces warmth and tactility in an understated way. “Avoid overly varnished and glossy pieces and opt for designs that celebrate oak’s beauty with organic knots and natural tones,” suggests Bana.
Blend toasted chestnut with sandy beige and a smattering of olive green to infuse your space with warmth and a connection to the outdoors. Whitewashed walls and flagstone flooring create a calm, understated backdrop while pockets of terracotta, foliage (or our life-like artificial plants if you don’t fancy the upkeep) and driftwood-inspired décor keep the look from feeling too bland. “Look for shades that complement each other to create a gentle harmony that feels restorative and rooted in nature,” suggests Bana.
This look places a real emphasis on harmony and balance. One of the easiest ways to incorporate this design ethos into your home is with clean lines. “Look for straight-edged silhouettes and furniture with geometric features. Think a rug with subtle stripes or a coffee table with fluted legs,” explains Bana. Let the motif recur throughout your space to create a calming visual rhythm and flow. “Our acoustic wall panels are perfect for this and absorb background noise and echoes to enhance the quiet of your home.”
