1. A few small changes… a whole new living room look

Stacks of books, small vases and decorative objects are quick and easy to move from elsewhere in your home, and can transform the place where you relax every day, making it feel completely different.

Rescue that vintage wall clock, modern floor lamp or statement mirror from the hallway, or move art prints from your dining room or bedroom.

Large, statement vases are perfect for adding a dash of your favourite new accent colour.

The same goes for cushions, affordable rugs and throws, which you can buy new or swap around from other rooms. Choose textiles to suit the seasons, with wools and velvets in the winter and cool linen and cottons in the summer. There are so many colours, patterns and textures to play with.

2. Rejuvenate your dining room with affordable art prints

A quick and easy way to refresh a dining space is with affordable wall art. Black and white prints stand out against richly coloured accent walls, while bold, abstract canvases make an impact above an industrial style sideboard.

Find something interesting that you won’t tire of looking at, and hang it in your sight line so the centre of your wall art is about five feet from the floor. If you’re hanging your affordable art prints in groups, choose an odd rather than an even number.

To make your dining space look its best, leave your most attractive tableware on display. For example a decorative serving bowl or beautiful placemats. If your dining set has seat or bench pads, think about replacing or recovering them for an instant update.

4. Revitalise your work space with inspiring accessories

When we look at the same things every day, they can begin to feel stale and boring. You can rejuvenate your home office or work nook with new home accessories or by moving accessories around and creating new combinations. Give your console table or desk a fresh lease of life with meaningful objects – a favourite family photo or two, something you’ve collected on your travels, a bowl filled with favourite stones or pine cones, or an ornament you love. Switch your affordable wall art around, and think about adding an accent armchair for a place to relax and do that blue-sky thinking.

5. From lush plants to bloom filled vases – bring the outside in

Bring the beauty of nature in to your home with twisting branches or sprigs of seasonal foliage gathered on walks, and green, leafy house plants. If you don’t have green fingers, the artificial plants now available are so good it’s hard to tell them apart from the real thing.

Fill a gorgeous vase with blossoms from your garden or the flower shop and you can fill a room with colour and scent for a whole week. Touches of nature bring a feeling of new life and vibrancy, or can create a relaxing vibe.

6. Magical transformations with affordable lighting and mirrors

You can change the look of your room quite dramatically with some beautiful but affordable lighting. A pendant light can create a dramatic focal point – think fabulous crystal chandelier – or it can make a dining area feel intimate when hung low above a table. A floor lamp can make a statement, while a table lamp will light up a corner of a living room or look beautiful as a bedside lamp. Affordable lighting not only transforms a space, it brings it up to date stylewise too.

A carefully placed mirror enhances both artificial and natural light and can even reflect a favourite accessory – such as that affordable art print. Place one above a console table to create a focal point. There are designs to suit every style of décor, from ornate baroque style mirrors to round retro mirrors and everything in between.

7. Feel right at home with meaningful finishing touches

A recent survey of 2,000 homeowners in the UK found that among the top 20 things that make a house feel like home are family photos, favourite books, plants, flowers in vases, candles, blankets and throws.

So once you’ve treated yourself to that affordable rug, affordable wall art or lovely new lamp, express your unique personality by adding a few special touches to every room.

It’s easy to refresh the look of your home with a little bit of imagination. We hope you feel inspired to give your favourite rooms a restyle, with some affordable new home accessories, and finishing touches you already have and love. Happy accessorising!
