Style your Bedroom with Living Coral

Pink hues continue to be popular in interior design, from dusky hues to ice cream shades. And now, in affirmation of the overwhelming ‘joie de vivre’ of all things pink, Pantone have chosen Living Coral as their colour of the year for 2019. They describe it as a ‘nurturing colour’ with a ‘lively presence’. Bright, joyous and richly sophisticated, Living Coral is vibrant yet not garish. It’s beautiful with neutrals, gentle in lighter tones and positively sublime paired with its complementary colour teal. In fact we might just be falling head over heels in love with it… Feeling bold? Read on for our 5 top tips for styling your bedroom with coral.

1. Create a calming vibe with coral and grey

One of our favourite Coral bedroom colour schemes is the coral and grey bedroom. Whether you have a grey fabric upholstered headboard against a coral wall or vice versa, the two colours create a restful and harmonious ambience, perfect for the room where you want to relax at the end of the day.

Grey as a colour is incredibly versatile, you can choose warm or cool tones of grey – or combine both. A cool grey will contrast with coral’s warm tones for a fresh and elegant feel – beautiful in a French inspired bedroom with shabby chic painted furniture such as a grey painted dressing table. Meanwhile, a warm grey suits a contemporary bedroom, setting off on trend accessories such as round mirror with a metallic frame or a bedside table in rose gold and marble.

2. Coral and teal for a balanced bedroom

Teal is opposite coral on the colour wheel, the cool intense blue-green of teal complements coral’s warm tones perfectly. It also creates balance when you don’t want the bedroom to be overwhelmingly feminine. Coral walls, teal accessories and perhaps a modern semi fitted wardrobe in a glossy black and wood finish is an uber-cool combination of the masculine and the feminine.

A luxurious teal rug is comfortable underfoot when you get out of bed, or you could snuggle up with a pile of comfy teal cushions. Even better, find a throw or cushion that combines both teal and coral to unify your scheme.

3. Keep it simple with a coral accent wall

All it takes is a splash of paint to give your bedroom the wow factor, if the paint is Living Coral that is. Paint the wall behind your bed in this intense and energetic shade and add instant warmth and, dare we say, passion to your boudoir.

When working with a coral accent wall you can use it to create interest, a backdrop to elegant white painted furniture. Or you can go for the ‘colour clash’ of coral with pink. It may seem too much, but in a bedroom this daring colour combination creates its own magic. A dusky pink upholstered bed frame against a vivid coral coloured wall is a rich colour clash that works for us.

4. Bold or subtle coral with natural woods

Coral is perfect with natural woods such as beech, oak and elm. An oak or mahogany sleigh style bed frame will pop against a rich coral wall in a contemporary bedroom. Equally, in a classic, pale bedroom a beautiful wooden slatted bed frame can sit against an accent wall with touches of coral in the wallpaper, or subtle touches of coral in the pattern of a throw or the ceramic base of a table lamp.

5. Accessories to complement coral

You may want to add just a small splash of coral to your bedroom. Accessories could include an abstract canvas incorporating touches of coral, or some comfy cushions for the bed.

But the accessories you choose for your gorgeous coral themed bedroom don’t have to be coral themseves, metallics and especially golds in mirror frames and other accessories will complement Pantone’s colour of the year beautifully, and are sure to add a touch of luxe to the most relaxing room in your home.
