White and blue is a classic colour combination. Make the most of this by using a darker shade for the walls of your blue dining room – a navy or maritime blue, perhaps. This will give a cosy, homely feel, keeping the ceiling, wall trim and window frames white for balance.
If you go with a high gloss white dining table, this will help to maximise the light, stopping the dark blue shade on the walls from being too overpowering. White leather dining chairs can add some shine too, or try white fabric dining chairs instead.
You could feature a marble dining table if you were feeling extravagant, perhaps matching it with fashionable grey dining chairs.
Accessorise the room with a mirror on one wall to help it feel more open. Some carefully selected lighting will also stop your navy blue dining room from feeling too dark.

This colour scheme is very ‘modern rustic’ in feel. Wood dining room furniture adds warmth, while grey is the neutral of the moment and combines beautifully with any colour, so it’s perfectly at home in a navy blue dining room. Start by applying a deep, opulent shade of blue to the walls.
You could paint all of the walls blue, or use grey on one or two. Try a blue rug on a dark wood floor, and sit your wooden dining set on top. On-trend industrial dining furniture could work well, with characterful wood surfaces and grey metal legs and fixtures.
Feel free to place grey furniture against your blue walls. Grey sideboards are very in style, or choose grey dining chairs in fabric or leather.
Add some silvery metallic and wooden accessories. A tripod floor lamp will lighten the area and give you both materials in one hit.

There is something about this combination that makes us feel closer to nature. A blue dining room with a light shade on the walls channels the sky (try it on the ceiling too), with quality wood dining room furniture a reminder of the forests it originated from.
Choose a wooden dining room table as the focus of your space, then surround it with upholstered dining room chairs. Try a wood dining bench if you want to show off more of this material.
Other natural textures and materials can work in this environment too. Leather dining chairs could be added, with wall art showing scenes from nature.
A dark blue shade and white can also work as accents, so think about blue table lamps, a white rug or curtains. White china with a blue pattern could be put on display too.

Teal is a shade of blue that suits a more traditional setting, yet it can feel quite modern and unexpected. If you want a blue dining room with a difference, this could be the way to go – more relaxed than a formal dining experience, but still with a touch of elegance.
After applying your teal blue shade to the walls, break up the colour with a painted white round dining table. Or, with a rectangular table perhaps pair your dining chairs with an upholstered dining bench. Add a touch of glamour with a chandelier.
White dining room furniture with ornate French styling will look right at home in this setting. Add some framed wall art and table lights to maintain the classic vibe, given an update by the use of the blue teal shade.
Metallics complement the traditional setting. Perhaps try a silver mirror, or remember to add some detailing with your choice of cutlery and table ornaments.

However you decide to decorate your blue dining room, the good news is that giving it some added interest with a few pops of another colour is easy. Blue is a cool shade by nature, and works well with other cool tones as an accent – greys, purples and even black. For higher contrast and a bolder look, try a warm accent instead, such as red or yellow.
You could add striking contrast with a black dining table, upholstered blue dining chairs and a yellow rug.
Or a surprising colour combination is blue and orange – both at entirely different ends of the colour spectrum, and therefore ideal complements. Create your blue dining room, but then add orange cushions to a chair in the corner, and orange table lamps.
Try a softer blue colour in your dining room and it can almost work like a neutral. Pair pastel blue walls with wood accents, a patterned tablecloth, and colourful vases and lampshades.

If painting the walls blue sounds like a step too far, you could introduce furniture and accessories in this wonderful colour instead, creating a blue dining room in an entirely different way. Then you can swap pieces as you please, offering flexibility to match your mood.
A blue rug is a good place to start, and blue dining chairs would stand out, particularly if you painted the walls white.
Blue curtains, and even display cabinets or sideboards painted blue can look effective. Or you could choose some colourful wall art with bold, blue skies as another way to add a splash of blue to your dining room.
