Let’s get cosy

Dreaming of a Christmas cosied up around a log fire on a comfy sofa? Right this way. For this countryside-inspired look, we opted for a statement leather Chesterfield brimming with debonair charm. But a modern farmhouse sofa doesn’t have to be a Chesterfield. “Look for sofas that ooze cosiness in a style you love,” suggests Shelley.

“The farmhouse look is all about warm woods, exposed beams and brickwork,” says Shelley. And if your home doesn’t have beams or brickwork, you can still introduce rustic style notes by adding handcrafted oak furniture to your living space instead.

A traditional fir tree decorated in the classic Christmas trio of red, white and green is the perfect finishing touch. Now just to wait for Santa’s sleigh.

Make an entrance

Welcoming guests into your home during the Christmas season starts with making a great (festive) first impression.

Begin with a beautifully crafted sideboard in a muted shade like grey or pale sage and decorate with farmhouse accessories like handwoven storage baskets, rustic rugs and porcelain lamps. You can also open up your hallway with a striking mirror like our window-effect Hoxton mirror. They’re great for letting light in (and checking your outfit on the way out)!

“For an added festive touch, introduce fir greens. These look particularly lovely sat atop a side table or sideboard amongst lamps and candles,” suggests Shelley.

Made for festive feasting

If you want to be the host with the most this Christmas, nothing beats bringing everyone together around a stylish farmhouse dining table. These relaxed and rustic designs are often crafted from solid wood and exude a refreshing simplicity - ideal for those who love the back-to-basics look.

Decorate the table with simple artisan tableware and perhaps a pottery centrepiece or two that you can fill with artificial winter plants or a traditional poinsettia.

“We crafted a suspended wooden branch decoration above an oak dining table to really elevate the space,” explains Shelley. It draws the eye upwards and lends a homely, crafted finish to your Christmas meal that feels fresh and authentic.

Countdown the sleeps in style

Having family to stay can often cause a last-minute flurry of panic as you try to find spare bed sheets and a blow up mattress. This year, why not get ahead of the season and create a chic farmhouse guest bedroom both you and your guests will love all year round?

To start, begin with a bed from a luxury brand like Hypnos or Harrison Spinks and cover with extra tog duvets and oversized pillows. Another farmhouse bedroom idea we love is to pair a rustic wooden bed frame with a fluffy rug underneath for a sleep space that feels snug yet simple.

“For the palette, choose materials and colours that imbue a sense of warmth and comfort like deep sage, green velvets and earthy wooden accents,” advises Shelley.

To accent this look, use lanterns, velvet cushions and rustic handcrafted tables to help create that snug, escape-to-the-country feel.
