5 Ways to Use Jewel Tones - Furniture Village

Look Books Lifestyle Design Inspiration

Winter may be grey and cold, but there’s no reason your interior has to be too. We’re going all out on a kaleidoscopic colour-fest this season, and Jenny Simmons from our Home Design Studio has just the ticket - jewel tones. We have 5 top tips to make your home bright & beautiful this Christmas, so let’s get into it.

Choose jewel tone upholsteries

What better way to bring some rich colour to your interior than with fabrics? “Jewel tones are special because the colours are so saturated,” says Jenny. “This makes them the perfect choice for luxurious fabrics like velvet and chenille to really dial up the opulence.” Lean into this rich gemstone feel with a large sofa and matching footstool, coupled up with a complementary accent chair or two.

There’s no need to stop at your furniture when it comes to fabrics, though. Jenny has some ideas on other ways to add jewel tones to your interior. “I’m a huge fan of using jewel toned wallpaper to saturate a space in colour. For added luxury, look to flocked wallpapers with a velvet feel,” says Jenny. “And don’t forget your curtains. Bonus points for patterns with hues that complement colours found elsewhere in the space.”

Pair with jewel tone accessories

“Your accessories are just as important as your furnishings,” explains Jenny. “Scatter cushions are a must, and don’t be afraid to mix up the colours. Clashing is less of a worry with jewel tones.” For a bright & beautiful Christmas, you need to create a cosy atmosphere too. By layering up cushions and rugs, you’ll make the space softer and more comfy, plus you’ll bring in textures and colours to add depth to your interior.

For your dining space, jewel tone tableware is a lovely way to make mealtimes even more special. The Jewel collection from Steelite is a beautiful tableware set that would look stunning on a rich table runner on a bright & beautiful Christmas dining table.

Complement jewel tones with gold metallic accents

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a little sparkle and shine. Double down on the opulence with some gold accents. “I love mixing bright jewel tones with dashes of gold for a treasure box feel,” says Jenny. Our lighting is perfect for adding a touch of metallic gold to a space, whether that’s a ceiling pendant light or a bedside table lamp. And if you don’t want to change your lighting, new lampshades are an easy fix that can make a big impact.

“Don’t forget your occasional furniture and finishing touches,” says Jenny. “It’s the little things that really tie the look together.” Pick out storage and occasional tables with gold metallic accents like feet and handles, then finish it off with ornaments, trinkets, and gold foiled wall art.

Deck the halls with jewel tone decorations

“I love colourful traditional Christmas decorations,” says Jenny. “And they’re ideal for this bright and beautiful interior.” Jewel tones and Christmas are a match made in heaven - twinkling lights and sparkly baubles combine to brighten up the holidays. This set of six stunning ornaments from Spicer & Wood fits the bill nicely.

“Christmas decorations are also a perfect excuse to bring in more touches of gold,” says Jenny. “Go to town with tinsel, and make sure any wreaths and garlands have flecks of gold in there too.” If you fancy getting hands on, Ideal Home has a fun guide on crafting your own Christmas wreath, and you can decide just how luxurious to make yours.

Soften jewel tones with natural wood

There’s a fine line between a colourful Christmas and an interior that looks like Santa’s workshop exploded in your living room. Luckily, Jenny knows just what to do to keep your bright & beautiful theme on the right side of the line.

“Natural wood is the yin to jewel tone’s yang,” explains Jenny. She recommends using wood to balance out the bright, saturated colours and gold and create a sense of harmony in your space. “Wooden flooring and furniture serve to temper the bold colours and keep things under control.”
