Interior Trend 1: Retro Rainbow

This stunning retro home décor trend takes fabulous designs, styling and patterns from every decade and brings them to life with a bright and bold rainbow palette. It’s all about having fun with your home styling, and the more playful you can make it feel, the better!

Statement furniture – including elegant mid-century designs – in block colours set the tone. In the bedroom, choose a buttoned and winged upholstered bed frame in a soft pastel shade, or in the living room a sumptuous velvet chaise sofa or accent chair.

Soft furnishings and elegant accessories include velvet fabric footstools, Deco inspired side tables, gleaming metallic floor lamps and tactile rugs.

This interior colours trend invites you to be bold with painted walls, balancing them out with white and neutral spaces. One clever trick is to paint only the bottom half of the wall, to achieve a feeling of equilibrium and lightness.

Be sparing with pattern, choose just one or two pieces, such as a large patterned rug or a piece of striking wall art. This way this way you can still achieve impact whilst ensuring the overall look it doesn’t feel too busy.

Interior Trend 2: Japanese Springtime

This subtle, Japanese inspired interior design trend of 2020 is as exquisite, fresh and beautiful as cherry blossom. Spaces are calm and uncluttered with no more furniture than is strictly necessary. In true Japanese style, the shapes speak for themselves.

A largely neutral palette can be found throughout with splashes of teal, amber and light pink adding character and liveliness, echoing those first signs of spring that appear after a long winter.

Find pieces with elegant lines, such a clean-lined, fluted headboard or a simple glass side table. Add beauty and warmth with wooden sideboards showing off the natural wood grain, or striking ceramic topped dining tables with tapered legs.

Eye-catching design details, such as gold capped legs and stunning ceramic tops elevate the scheme, adding a hint of understated luxury.

Interior Trend 3: Russet and Dusky Rose

Pink continues to be a key interior colours trend for 2020 and we can’t get enough of this versatile hue. Soft shades of dusky rose work for large pieces such as fresh, contemporary fabric sofas and luxurious, velvety bed frames. Complementary russet tones add warmth and depth in soft furnishings such as throws and cushions, preventing the look from feeling saccharine. If you’re feeling adventurous, playful scalloped patterns add character and a design-led feel.

A multitude of delicate tones and textures are mixed and matched to craft spaces that are multi-layered and inviting.

Tactile linens and textured ceramics sit alongside soft velvets and natural wood finishes creating a feeling of intimacy and warmth that will work for every season. Add personality to this chic decorating trend with accessories such as Scandi style wooden occasional tables, textured deep pile rugs and statement vases.

Interior Trend 4: Architectural Structures

This is the most striking of our interior design trends 2020. It has a similar look to the Industrial trend, with an emphasis on sweeping, bold shapes and a mix of cool and warm materials – natural woods and concrete with metal and glass.

Think distressed brickwork as a backdrop, or walls in rich shades of amber and ochre. Or go monochromatic with whites and greys. In terms of accessories, take a ‘less is more’ approach, with just a few carefully considered sculptural pieces to add character.

Consider an extending dining table with a concrete-look top and a dramatic, dark grey metal X-frame base, a statement piece combining hardwearing practicality with a chic and contemporary vibe. In the living room, choose a shelving unit with a metal frame and wooden shelves made from reclaimed railway sleepers, or a simple wooden coffee table in oak or walnut with clean lines, splayed legs and a slightly retro feel.

Interior Trend 5: Pistachio and Caramel

Some colour combinations are simply meant to be. In this calming, soothing interior colours trend a gorgeous palette of soft greens and rich shades of brown balances warm and cool tones – perfect for creating a relaxing atmosphere in a living room or bedroom.

Against a pistachio backdrop add warm dashes of caramel in cushions and other soft furnishings… with touches of gold in mirrors and lamps for a subtle touch of luxury. You can be a little eclectic, with textured ceramics, glass or copper vases and house plants.

Imagine a dining table with a rich, oak finish top on distinctive metal or wood and metal legs. Or a luxuriously soft Italian sofa with a sophisticated silhouette in 100% premium, buffed leather could be perfect as the centrepiece of your restful and inviting living space.

Interior Trend 6: A Hint of Mint

Light, airy and beautifully neutral, mint is set to be the interiors colour of 2020. It works with greys, touches of browns, deep turquoise tinged blues and even yellows and limes.

Complement the hue with a luxuriously upholstered grey sofa, perhaps one from the master craftspeople at Ercol, in textured fabric or velvet, with a curved oak frame and turned and tapered oak legs. In the bedroom, an ottoman bed with a sumptuous, tall statement buttoned grey headboard is perfect against pistachio walls.

Blue-green accessories and soft furnishings, flashes of chrome and touches of earthy brown complete this vibrant, fresh decorating trend.
