Create a cosy corner

Every Nordic home needs a cosy corner - especially at Christmas. Not only is it a great design feature, but it also doubles up as a great spot to curl up with a mug of your favourite hot chocolate and unwind after a busy day of wrapping presents.

“Use a statement accent chair upholstered in soft faux-fur to create an authentic Nordic feel. Then pair it with a contemporary floor lamp, neutral rug and minimalist coffee table to create a cohesive cosy cabin aesthetic,” explains Shelley.

Up the cosiness factor with lots of cushions, a fleecy throw or two and pine-scented candles. You can even channel the Nordic pared-back aesthetic by introducing a contemporary wooden Christmas tree instead of a traditional fir tree. “Sometimes, less is more so don’t be afraid to remove accessories and keep things simple.”

Hygge-ify your bedroom

Hosting Christmas this year? Put your guests up in Scandi style with this hygge-friendly bedroom look. Start with bare, whitewashed walls and slowly build up a Nordic aesthetic with metal-worked accents and a nod to the season with pops of red, gold and green.

“A nordic bed takes centrestage and is usually handcrafted from solid oak or pine,” notes Shelley. “For a classic Scandi vibe, opt for a bed with a simple design and then layer with cosy duvets and pillows.”

While the rest of the look is refreshingly pared-back, when it comes to the floor, the more rugs you can fit in the better. Shaggy, fluffy, woolly - the choice is yours!

And just because it’s Christmas, why not add a festive fir tree strung with fairy lights so your guests can wake up to presents by their nordic bed on Christmas morning?

Style a statement sideboard

Christmas is the one time of year when it’s completely acceptable to cover every available surface with accessories. So, here’s our Nordic-inspired take on it…

“You can update the Nordic aesthetic with a glossy sideboard. It’s a great way to keep the look modern. Crafted oak furniture has its place, but don’t feel bound to it,” advises Shelley.

Create a Christmas centrepiece by decorating your sideboard with a statement lamp and festive-inspired foliage. “Pot pourri is a must - it’s perfect for infusing your space with seasonal fragrance,” suggests Shelley.

Feast in Nordic style

This Nordic dining room look is laid-back, inviting and exudes a stylish simplicity that we love.

Nordic dining tables come in all shapes and sizes, but they have one thing in common: minimalist design. “Tables with clean lines and a sleek silhouette are the way to go,” advises Shelley. Top tip: explore our dining sets with benches - they’re great for creating a relaxed dining atmosphere because of their social seating set-up.

“Decorate with pine cones, moss and sprigs of fir to create an authentic Nordic tablescape,” suggests Shelley. Then, add faux-fur cushions to keep it cosy.

To create the ultimate Nordic living room interior at Christmas, keep it simple with a neutral palette of white, cream and beige.
