Scandinavian style

Scandanavian style furniture

Food… fashion… furniture; we can’t think of anything the Scandinavians don’t do well. Scandinavia has given us some real design classics – like Jacobsen’s iconic 60s classic ‘egg’ chair and Wegner’s countless, covetable mid-century modern pieces. And let’s not forget the folding day beds, retro lighting, warm teak sideboards and clever modular shelving systems found in many a modernist’s home today.

By emphasising the importance of both function and form, ‘scandi-style’ has proven the old adage that good design stands the test of time. Scandinavian furniture is now more popular than ever; some of the most highly collectable sofas and sideboards are over 70 years old. But don’t worry about hunting it down – consider investing in one of our favourite scandi-style Furniture Village pieces instead.

ROM Chronos corner sofa

Whilst Belgian makers Chronos aren’t technically Scandinavian, they’ve given as much thought to the function of their designs as the form – a quality their northern friends are famous for. Available in a huge range of styles, covers and recliner options, the ROM Chronos corner terminal sofa in the gorgeous Skiro fabric comes in increments of 20cm to suit any room size. Even the ratchet headrests can be adjusted, making it practical and beautiful.

Tripod floor lamp

Made using top-grade pale wood with a nickel finish, this adjustable tripod floor lamp reminds us of Nordic sailors in icy blue seas. But if you’re not the boating type, it will prove both charming and practical in any scandi-style living room.

Whitter cushion

Cute woodland creatures are a hot interiors trend that goes hand-in-hand with nature-loving scandi-style. This soft, plump jacquard cushion with thick, fibre filling and delightful chirruping bird will prove just the thing after a long day.

Ercol Originals coffee table

‘Minimal’ and ‘retro’ are the buzzwords of scandi-style and furniture icons Ercol are the masters of both. Many of Ercol’s original designs are still highly collectible – perhaps more so now than when we first saw them over 60 years ago. This Ercol coffee table with rack shelving is a timeless classic, and its pale blonde oak is the perfect nod to cool, wintry chic.
