1. Paint the Town

Enter an eclectic, colour-drenched world with our dopamine-inducing take on classic colour blocking. Teeming with statement shapes and a kaleidoscopic palette of red, burgundy and fuchsia, this full-throttle autumn winter 2023 trend delivers impact and a seriously Insta-worthy interior.

‘A warm terracotta backdrop sets the scene for splashes of poppy red, midnight navy and fuchsia. Dare to be bold with your colour clashes. The bolder the better,’ explains Elkie.

Striking silhouettes are the name of the game when it comes to furniture trends for 2023. ‘Be adventurous with shapes and look for pieces with interesting angles. Think Chesterfields, boxy armchairs and winged bed frames. They’ll really help bring a sense of drama and flair to your space,’ says Elkie.

Vivid washes of colour temper this look’s feverish flamboyance, but it’s the little details that lift it from classic colour clash to a lively riot of statement hues and patterns.

‘Space-elevating accessories like cushions, footstools and lamps are a great place to introduce checks and dogtooth fabric, as well as luxe materials like velvet and frosted glass,’ explains Elkie.

2. Bloomsbury

Our next autumn winter 2023 trend honours Charleston House, the iconic residence of Bloomsbury Set painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. Blending an Arts and Crafts sensibility with a distinctive muted mood, this homely reinterpretation feels refreshingly timeless.

Set to a backdrop of painted swirls, spirals and decorative wallpaper, this autumn trend is all about infusing a bohemian spirit into your interior. ‘We used lovingly crafted oak furniture and a cosy statement sofa to infuse the space with warmth and colour,’ explains Elkie.

Little nods to the Arts and Crafts movement are great for adding personality to your interior. ‘Pair mismatched paisley and floral cushions with William Morris wallpaper for an authentic Bloomsbury vibe and don’t be afraid to loosen traditional style rules,’ Elkie continues.

As she says, ‘Antique furniture and hand painted murals are classic Bloomsbury, but you may find it easier to channel the look’s bohemian spirit – and make it entirely your own – by drawing on the scrolled sofa arms, pedestal base tables and painted wood occasional pieces of modern country furniture.’

3. Grounded

Paying homage to the colour brown in all its many rich and varied hues from caramel to hazelnut to coffee, Grounded is one of the season’s most versatile interior trends.

Yet this particular autumn trend is more than just a colour palette. Grounded is about warmth and texture, tactile surfaces and natural finishes. Elkie says, ‘Think rustic wood furniture, well-worn leather sofas and velvet chairs alongside carefully chosen accent pieces.’

She continues, ‘Leather and wood might sound traditional, but bold modern accessories and contemporary lighting will make sure that this trend stays effortlessly sophisticated.’

Of course, Grounded is a feeling as well as a look. So while this autumn winter 2023 trend speaks to the beauty of the season’s vibrant colours and natural textures, it’s also the perfect antidote to the pace and demands of modern life. Grounded is stillness, calm, relaxation and comfort – everything we want our homes to be.

With neutral walls and floors this look welcomes monochromatic accents of black, white and grey just as easily as more typically autumnal tones of burnt orange and forest green, which makes our Grounded autumn trend easy to refresh as the seasons change.

4. New Nostalgia

The 1970s style revival continues and we’re here for it. Our New Nostalgia furniture trend for 2023 meets every deeply felt need for a relaxing yet functional home aesthetic – with more than a dash of on-trend retro charm.

This autumn trend brings together the organic shapes and flowing feel of 1970s-inspired furniture with a warm-in-a-cool-way colour palette of off-beat sage and mustard tones to create a look that feels timeless as well as fresh.

As Elkie explains, ‘We started with a handful of striking 70s-style pieces of wood furniture, choosing ones with classic curves and smooth tactile finishes. Then we built on this autumn trend with retro ceramic pieces, quirky table lamps and, especially, colourful textiles.’

She continues, ‘Geometric patterns and prints in the form of wallpaper, cushions, bed linen and rugs give this trend contemporary style as well as the cosy warmth you want.’

Elkie also recommends accessorising with the bright green foliage of well-tended potted plants – the bigger the better – and let nature make its presence felt, albeit from the warmth of your New Nostalgia living space.
