Feeling inspired to shake things up at home? Take a look ahead at the top interior trends for 2022. Join our expert interior stylist, Aneta Skoczek, as she shares what will be taking over our Instagram feeds this year, her top picks from our collection and how the pandemic continues to transform how we decorate and live in our homes.
‘Feeling good at home is vital for our mental health - and comfort is a big part of that,’ says Aneta. 'Statement corner sofas are surging in popularity because they make relaxing feel indulgent. They’re a big hug in sofa form, and that’s what we need right now.’
Aneta’s top pick: ‘It has to be the Theron from the exclusive new Nicoletti collection. Handmade in Italy with a luxury, minimalist vibe and sleek recliner motion.’
A prediction: 2022 is the year entertaining makes its big comeback. Aneta predicts we’ll be seeing round dining tables everywhere: ‘They’re less formal than rectangular styles, so they’re perfect for creating a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. Plus, they’re great for popping in a kitchen corner.’ A return to laughter-filled conversations with friends, overflowing wine glasses and delicious food? Yes, please!
Aneta’s top pick: ‘I’m a big fan of the Earth round dining table. It’s beautifully made and will give an industrial flavour to your dinner parties.’
It’s true: marble furniture is having a moment. ‘We’ve seen it crop up in glamour interiors for a long time, but minimalist spaces (a growing trend as we leave behind the clutter of maximalism) are embracing its versatility too,’ Aneta says. Whether it’s a sideboard or side table, marble is a symbol of refined luxury and instantly elevates any space it’s in.
Aneta’s top pick: ‘The Merlin dining table shows you don’t always need to splash out on real marble to create a sophisticated dining set up.’
2022 will see the ever-popular glamour trend take a slight detour. ‘It’s been heading in a softer, more muted direction for a while,’ Aneta explains. ‘We’ll see a return to the golden age of Hollywood glam with an emphasis on warm tones like cream and gold and a return to classic designs. It embodies refined elegance rather than in-your-face luxury.’
Aneta’s top pick: ‘The Lavish sofa is opulence personified with its indulgent cushions and timeless style.’
Let’s face it, the world of work has changed forever. Hybrid working means our homes now need a dedicated office space just as much as a kitchen. Aneta’s advice? ‘Repurpose your spare room, the landing or even an unused corner with a desk that does all the hard work for you. Desks with built-in storage will keep all your wires, monitors and paper in check.’ Read our 11 home office ideas for more work-ready styling ideas.
Aneta’s top pick: ‘The Moon desk lets you create a productive environment with its big desk surface and drawer storage.’
Accessories are the beating heart of any interior, and 2022 will see a renewed focus on little accents with larger-than-life personalities. ‘It’s the conversation starters, the ‘where did you get that?’ pieces that give your space its character,’ Aneta says.
Aneta’s top pick: ‘I love the bubble table lamp. It’s glam, Art Deco and statement style rolled into one.’
Bedrooms can often fall off the room refresh radar, but here’s a little nudge to make it a priority in 2022. Why? Because your sleep environment has a huge impact on the quality of your sleep. ‘I always think a bed frame you can’t wait to get into is a good place to start. The rest will flow from there,’ Aneta explains. We don’t know about you, but we’re always up for giving a bedroom a zhuzh. For more sleep advice, head to our Sleep Well, Live Well site.
‘There’s a huge amount of pent-up creative energy that’s beginning to find expression in ultra-confident spaces that play with colour and design in a big way,’ explains Aneta. ‘The pandemic transformed our lives, and the design world has responded by throwing the rule book out the window.’ Nothing is off limits, just be adventurous with your styling and, most importantly, have fun. That ‘out-there’ colour combo you’ve seen on Pinterest but are too scared to try? We say, go for it!
Aneta’s top pick: ‘I love the fun and playfulness of the Oyster Bay chair. It just oozes over-the-top 70s decadence.’
