How to Get Your Dining Area's Christmas Lighting Just Right

Competitions

This competition is now closed

It’s the time of year when extravagant lighting has never been more important. There are Christmas lights everywhere!

Not only are the insides of our homes decked out in fairy lights (of all shapes, sizes and colours), many outsides also resemble the homes from the Christmas movie Home Alone.

Fortunately, there’s never been a better excuse to brighten up our homes!

Get it right and you can create the perfect festive mood.

But get it wrong and you can risk spoiling the atmosphere completely.

Let your Christmas tree take centre stage

Obviously, it’s important to ensure your Christmas tree lights are the centre of attention, so switch off the ‘big’ light to make them the main focal point.

Once you’ve done that, floor lamps are a great way to add more mood lighting to a dining area.

Unlike traditional pendant lights, floor lamps allow you to disperse light high into the corners of a room to give it added ambience.

Discover our imposing Elegance Floor Lamp and find out how its eye-catching faux silk shade could become a talking point for your festive guests.

Copper is the colour of choice for top interior designers at present, partly because of its warm feel and partly due to the way its surface changes at different times of the day.

Our contemporary Copper Fan Floor Lamp fulfils both of those functions and its sweeping black stem is sure to cast imposing and shadowy figures on any room this Christmas.

If you want your home to have more of a retro feel, check out our Chrome Tripod Spotlight, a great finishing touch for any large dining area or even a living room.

3 ways to achieve ambient lighting

Use coloured light bulbs to bring different moods to different rooms. Restaurants and bars regularly use purples and greens to create atmosphere.

Use rugged or textured surfaces to diffuse light and disperse it at different angles, building shadows and adding interest.

Use lights which boasts strong geometric shapes - like cubes and ovals - to hold light, such as the Liquorice Floor Lamp.
