At Furniture Village we’ve found that this also applies to our living room and thought that a changeup was in order to get into the new year spirit, so we want to show you 3 ways in which to give your sofa an instant refresh!

Add colour with cushions

Firstly, you can easily make a bold statement with cushions. One of the great things about this accessory is that because of the sheer amount of styles that can be found, there’s sure to be the perfect design to suit your style. Make a bold statement in size. A minimalist sofa can benefit heavily from a large contrasting patterned cushion. This is a fantastic way to make an impact in a very clean and simple way.  Alternatively, even the use of a small cushion can make a daring impression, having the same eye-catching effect with a little more charm.

If you are looking to add a stylish element of symmetry to your home, then this can be done with a variety of different sized cushions and pair them so that they match either side of the sofa. Why not also try layering similar colours and textures to increase the depth of your aesthetic? This will help to create a warm and inviting feel that will have all of the family wanting to snuggle up on the sofa.

Try out a throw

Stylish and functional, a throw can add warmth, depth and bold colour to a room. There are various different ways to drape a throw on your sofa, with each style creating a different aesthetic. The simplest and most well-known way is to drape it folded over the arm, waiter style, to add a touch of elegance. They can also be placed over the entire back of the sofa, to add a significant refresh to the sofa’s pattern or colour.

Add a footstool

A footstool has lots to add to your living room. Originally a piece of furniture to rest your feet upon, they have evolved into so much more to create a dynamic interior. With a vast range of different options to choose from, ranging from supple leather designs to statement patterned ottomans, there is a footstool to suit every living room style. For a bolder look, choose one in a contrasting colour or pattern to your sofa.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shapes too – a round ottoman is perfect for a corner sofa as it is easy to manoeuvre around and breaks up the sharp edges.  If you own a smaller sofa such as a 2 seater, or one that doesn’t offer a reclining option, then you could really benefit from a wider rectangular footstool. Not only will this provide ample space for putting your feet up, but you also get the added bonus of extra storage space too!
